Floodgate Farm is on 190 acres at 2100' in the Laughlin Range above Redwood Valley. The farm uses organic practices but is not certified. A specialty is wild salad mix with herbs, flowers, and flavorful greens. We love the process of gathering all the different flavors and colors for the salad mix, and offer "Salad University" classes on the properties and growing methods for each ingredient, as well as workshops with guest instructors. We have also designed and implemented water catchment systems to use rainwater to supplement a spring and pond in the driest months and am willing to share this information. We are creating berms and swales, hugelbeds, orchards, food forests, since moving to the Redwood Valley location in April 2012. We teach what we have learned about permaculture in our unique Mendoterranean biome (to use Mark Albert's term), including how keyline methods are sabotaged by gophers and voles.
