We grow primarily annual vegetables and perennials including fruit, flowers and rhubarb, and whenever possible use open-pollinated seeds from local seed growers. Our practices are beyond organic. We don’t use pesticides or herbicides and our farming methods are based around composting and minimizing soil disruption. Aside from providing nutritious food to our community, our primary goal is to sequester carbon and conserve water by partnering with our local neighbor, North Coast Brewing Company, using their brewing materials to create beautiful compost to nourish the land. We proudly offer our historic barn and our beautiful atmosphere for weddings and other events.
What We Grow
How We Grow It
The foundation of our carbon farming operation is our compost system in partnership with North Coast Brewing Company. Compost is the breakdown of organic matter that becomes nutrients for the surrounding plants and soil microbes. A rich microbial environment helps plants sequester carbon from the atmosphere back into the ground, and is rapidly becoming recognized in the scientific community as one of the greatest hopes for reversing catastrophic global climate change. We are proud to partner with the Mendocino County Resource Conservation District (MCRCD) and Fibershed. We are one of the first farms of any kind in Mendocino County to be developing a carbon farm plan with the MCRCD.
