C’mon Home To Eat- Eat Local October 2018

C’mon Home To Eat- Eat Local October 2018

How Local Can You Go?

Eating local food is highly nutritious, saves packaging, comes from a known source, enriches community ties, supports the local economy, and saves fossil fuel.  C’mon Home to Eat in October is a challenge to each of you, while the harvest is at its peak, to try more local food, invest in the community, expand your garden, and preserve food for the winter months.

Each time you attend one of AV Foodshed’s C’mon Home To Eat events in October or shop at one of the farm stands, put a C’mon raffle ticket in the jar for a chance to win dinners at the Boonville Hotel or Bewildered Pig and gift certificates for local farm stands.

We will also be featuring our local grain producer, Mendocino Grain Project, using local flour for many of the featured dinners and introducing local flour for sale at Boont Berry.  Watch for a Connecting With Local Food article in the AVA and the AV Foodshed website on Doug Mosel and the Mendocino Grain Project—coming soon.

Check out the list of local farms and farmers, the businesses that sell local food, the eateries that serve local food, and the places to buy plants, trees, seeds, and soil amendments.  Email avfoodshed@ gmail.com to use the Foodshed apple press to turn your apples into juice, cider, or syrup.

The calendar below shows AV Foodshed’s highlighted special events during October to connect with more local food, actually starting with the last day in September.  Check back for more details to come.
